Born in lockdown,
built for community

“When one woman succeeds, she inspires countless others to rise with her.”

Urban Pop Ups was born in 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdowns in Western Australia, with a simple vision: a safe and welcoming place where women could bring their home-based and online businesses to the wider community, build financial independence, and create opportunities for their families.

  1. 2020

    Born in lockdown

Launched on 15 September as Muslimahs in Business, opening with a high tea.

  2. Dec 2020

    The first big market

Cannington Exhibition Centre — stalls across fashion, beauty, health and halal food, and every dollar of entry donated to the Muslim Women’s Support Centre.

  3. 2021

    More than stalls

A ladies-only Zakaah for Women workshop, the Spring Market in UWA’s Winthrop Hall, and 250 loaves sponsored for Ramadan.

  4. Six years

    Three hundred vendors

What began for women-led businesses grew to welcome Muslim-owned businesses across every industry — home cooks and caterers, modest fashion, jewellery, crafts. Alongside the stalls: workshops, business networking, the Kidspreneur Market, and a luncheon for our elders.

  5. Now

    The next chapter

The Urban Souq: an online directory of Perth’s halal and Muslim-owned businesses, so the community can find them all year round — restaurants and cafés, home goods, modest fashion, makers and more, not only on market day.

Urban Foundation

Urban Foundation is the charitable arm of Urban Pop Ups, and giving back has always been at the heart of what we do. Proceeds from our events have helped raise and distribute thousands of dollars to local and international causes — so every vendor, visitor and stallholder shops with purpose, supporting those in need.

What Our Vendors Say

Urban Pop-Up has been amazing to be part of. IFTIIMO was one of the first small businesses to collaborate with them, and we’ve since had the privilege of being part of so many amazing markets. The founders are always so welcoming, supportive and available to help with any questions. It’s such a valuable platform for small businesses, opening doors to new customers and opportunities.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the rockstar organizer for giving me an opportunity to debut at this wonderful event. All the new people I’ve managed to meet today, be it fellow vendors or customers, or you, who stopped by our store to say hello — you made this small local business feel so much love.

Jazakallah khair to Urban Pop Ups for organising another amazing event! To our new and return customers — thank you for your kind words, feedback on our soaps and support.
